Authorities have charged a suspect in the July 24 shooting that killed an Amazon Fulfillment Center employee in Gates.
24-year-old Markis Ortiz-Harris, of Rochester, was sitting in his vehicle outside the warehouse preparing to start his shift when 28-year-old Luis Ortiz-Vega, also of Rochester, approached and shot him, according to the Gates Police Department. Ortiz-Harris was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
Ortiz-Vega fled the state following the shooting but returned to the Rochester area, where U.S. Marshals took him into custody during a traffic stop Wednesday night.
He is charged with second-degree murder and remains in custody awaiting arraignment. Investigators say the shooting was a targeted attack following an argument; Ortiz-Vega was not employed at the fulfillment center.
