State Trooper Injured During Traffic Stop

SHARE NOW

A New York State Trooper was injured Saturday night while investigating a person for driving while under the influence related to a motor vehicle accident that happened in the town of Hempstead on Long Island.

During the investigation, the unidentified Trooper was seated in the driver’s seat of the Troop car which was stopped in the southbound left lane with the emergency lights activated. A vehicle operated by a 17-year-old driver struck the Troop car in the rear and the Trooper was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The 17-year-old was issued a Move Over Law ticket.

New York State Police can not overly stress the importance of the Move Over Law. It is in place to save lives and reduce collisions such as this. As soon as you see emergency lights, traffic safety vests, or a vehicle stopped in the lane, motorists need to slow down and move over.
