The New York State Police say an off-duty trooper has been arrested following a hit-and-run crash in Westchester County.
Troopers responded just before 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, to reports of a crash near Roa Hook Road and Route 9 in the Town of Cortlandt. Investigators say a 2021 Toyota SUV struck a vehicle stopped at a red light and then left the scene. Witnesses reported the SUV continued south in the wrong lane on Route 9, hitting additional cars before coming to a stop at a residence in Ossining.
Police identified the driver as Trooper Jennifer Alvarez, who was off duty at the time. Officers say she showed signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety tests. Alvarez was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and taken to the State Police barracks in Cortlandt for processing.
She was released to a third party with an appearance ticket and is due back in Cortlandt Town Court on October 8 at 4 p.m. No injuries were reported from the crashes.
State Police say an internal investigation is underway and administrative action will be taken in line with department policy.
