State Police Sergeant Seriously Injured in Niagara Parkway Accident

A State Police motorcycle was involved in a collision on the Niagara Scenic ParkWay Friday.

Preliminary investigation determined that the 2010 Chevrolet operated by Anastassia Radell of Youngstown, NY exited the Niagara Scenic Parkway northbound onto State Route 93. Radell allegedly failed to yield the right of way and was struck by a New York State Police 2002 Harley Davidson Motorcycle traveling eastbound on State Route 93. Sergeant Station Commander Salvatore Mattina, 10-year veteran of the State Police, was riding the Harley-Davidson for a safety/dry run for the Mercy Flight-Western New York Dice Run when the accident occurred.

Sgt/SC Mattina suffered very serious injuries, including multiple fractures, internal bleeding, and organ damage. The extent of these injuries especially the broken bones in his face, arm, pelvis, right leg tibia, fibula, right ankle, and sternum, along with the internal bleeding and brain injury

NYSP Collision Reconstruction Unit and Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted in this collision.
