State Police have identified the man who died in a snowmobile crash on New Year’s Day in Jefferson County.
The decedent is identified as 55-year-old Joseph DiDomenico, of Liverpool. Investigators say the other operator involved in the incident was a 16-year-old male, also from Liverpool.
Troopers responded to Waite Road in the town of Worth at approximately 1 p.m. on Thursday, following reports of a serious snowmobile crash. A preliminary investigation determined that two males were operating snowmobiles on Junction 306, a snowmobile trail near Waite Road. Investigators say one operator stopped along the trail and dismounted his snowmobile. As the second operator crested a hill, he was unable to stop in time and struck the individual who was off the snowmobile.
DiDomenico suffered fatal injuries and was transported by ambulance to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, where he was pronounced deceased.
An evaluation of the 16-year-old operator showed no signs of impairment.
At this time, State Police say the crash appears to have been accidental. The investigation remains ongoing.
