The New York State Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that occurred early Sunday morning on Downer Street in the Village of Baldwinsville.
At approximately 5:50 a.m., patrols were dispatched for a report of a woman lying in the eastbound lane of Downer Street. Responding officers confirmed that the woman was deceased and had injuries consistent with being struck by a motor vehicle. The caller was a passerby who did not witness the incident.
Investigators say the woman had been walking from a nearby Dunkin Donuts around 5:39 a.m. Surveillance footage and interviews indicate it would have taken her about two minutes to reach the location where she was found. There is no indication that she was dragged any significant distance.
State Police are still notifying the victim’s family, so her name has not been released at this time.
With assistance from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and a review of surveillance video, State Police have identified the vehicle believed to be involved. The vehicle has been located, and investigators are currently interviewing the driver. The investigation remains active.
Anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident or who has additional information is asked to contact State Police at (315) 366-6000. Additional updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
