The New York State Police has announced the promotion of Captain Brian T. Ferrone to the rank of Major. Ferrone will serve as the 27th Troop Commander for Troop T, which oversees law enforcement and public safety operations along the New York State Thruway.

Major Ferrone most recently served as Captain and Zone Commander of Troop T – Zone 1, where he supervised State Police operations on the Thruway across Westchester, Rockland, Orange, and Ulster counties. In his new role, he will lead uniformed members and civilian employees at 12 stations covering 21 counties, spanning the 570-mile Thruway corridor from New York City to Buffalo.

Ferrone began his State Police career in 2005 with Troop K, SP Wappinger. He rose through the ranks, earning promotions to Sergeant in 2012, Lieutenant in 2016, and Captain in 2021. His assignments have included Troops B, K, NYC, and T, with leadership roles in traffic management and major metropolitan operations, including oversight of State Police activities at New York City’s bridges, tunnels, and the World Trade Center.

In 2022, he returned to Troop T as Zone 1 Commander, a position he held until his promotion to Major.

A graduate of the State University of New York at Albany, Ferrone holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology with minors in psychology and criminal justice. Before joining the State Police, he served with the New York City Police Department, assigned to the 23rd and 34th Precincts.

Ferrone is also a 2018 graduate of the FBI National Academy’s 274th Session in Quantico, Virginia.

With his promotion, Major Ferrone will oversee Troop T’s mission of ensuring the safety of millions of motorists who travel the New York State Thruway each year.
