State police and local law enforcement across the state will increase patrols through Thanksgiving weekend.
The patrols are aimed at combatting drunk and distracted driving as traffic volumes and alcohol use tend to increase during the Thanksgiving holiday period.
The enforcement period begins Saturday and will run through December 1.
During last year’s enforcement period, 1,342 people were arrested for driving while intoxicated. Police also issued 7,656 speeding tickets and 970 distracting driving tickets.
