New York Farm Bureau members from across the state gathered at the Capitol Monday and Tuesday for the organization’s annual Taste of New York Reception and Lobby Day, meeting with lawmakers to discuss issues facing the agricultural industry.
More than 350 people, including state legislators, attended the reception, which featured 90 tables showcasing New York-grown products such as beef, honey, cheese, produce, maple products, wine, seafood and craft beverages.
The event preceded Lobby Day, when Farm Bureau members met with legislators and staff to advocate for agricultural priorities. This included funding for research and environmental programs, tax credits for farmworker housing, labor regulations and renewable energy policy.
New York Farm Bureau President David Fisher said the events highlight the state’s agricultural diversity and strengthen relationships with lawmakers.
“There is nothing more effective than sharing real stories from real farmers,” Fisher said.
State lawmakers praised the annual gathering, calling it an important opportunity to connect policymakers with the farmers who produce the New York’s food.
Farm Bureau members and staff met with more than 175 legislators and staffers during the two-day event.
New York Farm Bureau represents farmers and agribusinesses across the state on issues including labor, energy, education and environmental policy.
