In its effort to reduce overdoses and save lives, New York has distributed over 20 million fentanyl and xylazine test strips statewide.
Governor Hochul announced the milestone Friday where she also highlighted federal data that estimates overdose deaths in areas of the state outside New York City declined 9% over the 12-month period ending in March. In that same time, it’s estimated New York City overdoses declined by 3.1%.
“Even one life lost to an overdose is too many – and it’s a story we have heard too often in New York and across the nation,” Governor Hochul said. “Our work is far from over, and we’ll continue delivering the resources and services needed to address this crisis and help New Yorkers struggling with addiction.”
Thanks to an online portal, any resident of New York can order naloxone kits and test strips.
