Special Olympics New York Finds New Partner in Mother Cabrini

SHARE NOW

Special Olympics New York is pleased to partner with a new ally in the field of health. Thanks to a grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, the statewide nonprofit sports organization can expand its offerings for athletes with intellectual disabilities. The grant support will increase funding for transportation, facilities and incentives at large competitions.

This $100,000 grant will support transportation costs to all three of 2025’s State Games competitions (Winter, Summer, and Fall), along with Special Olympics NY’s annual floorball competition at the Javits Center in New York City. These events are ideal for hosting large-scale health programming, since athletes from around the state can enjoy baseline screenings and referrals, all free of charge.

Special Olympics NY President & CEO Stacey Hengsterman said, “We are so grateful for the partnership and support of Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, which recognizes the health disparity people with intellectual disabilities often face. This partnership will bring access to inclusive health services to thousands of Special Olympics athletes across New York.”

“We are deeply honored by the wide-ranging impact of our work and by the dedication of our grantees across New York State,” said Msgr. Gregory Mustaciuolo, Chief Executive Officer of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation. “We’re inspired by the compassionate legacy of Mother Frances Cabrini, as this year marks a significant milestone in our grantmaking, as we surpassed $1 billion in grants since our founding. This moment fuels our commitment as a Foundation to look toward the future, where we will continue making bold investments in a healthier, more equitable future for all.”

Mother Cabrini Health Foundation will also provide premium winter hats to the first 300 athletes who attend health screenings at the Special Olympics New York State Winter Games in Rochester this weekend.
