A Southern Tier woman has been arrested for allegedly extorting more than a quarter of a million dollars from another person.
Last month, State Police received a complaint from the Schenectady County District Attorney regarding a resident reporting they had been a victim of extortion. The investigation determined that 29-year-old Charlee Cobin had met the victim online in April of 2024. During their communications, Cobin allegedly requested money from the victim. When the victim refused to provide money, Cobin reportedly threatened to expose their communications, causing the victim significant embarrassment and ridicule. It is alleged that between April of 2024 and April 2025, Cobin allegedly extorted more than $250,000 from the victim.
Cobin was charged with felony grand larceny and was released on an appearance ticket.
