A Southern Tier man is facing multiple felony charges following an investigation into fraudulent prescription practices at a Rite Aid pharmacy in Endicott.
A State Police investigation determined that while employed as a pharmacist, Clyde Stevens allegedly illegally dispensed both controlled and non-controlled substances, including issuing fraudulent prescriptions. The inquiry began after the company identified discrepancies in medication distribution, revealing that Stevens had dispensed quantities exceeding doctors’ prescriptions on multiple occasions. These actions resulted in a financial loss of more than $4,000 to the pharmacy. Further investigation found that Stevens also unlawfully filled prescriptions for controlled substances that had never been authorized by a medical professional.
As a result, Stevens was charged with the following offenses:
• Criminal Sale of a Prescription for a Controlled Substance of, or a Controlled Substance by, a Practitioner or Pharmacist (Class C Felony – 5 counts)
• Forgery in the Second Degree (Medical Prescription) (Class D Felony – 11 counts)
• Grand Larceny in the Third Degree (Class D Felony – 1 count)
• Fraud and Deceit Related to Controlled Substances (Misdemeanor – 5 counts)
Stevens was processed at SP Endwell and subsequently transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for centralized arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
