The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office has identified human remains discovered in 2022 as those of Randy Seck, who was 30 years old at the time of his death.
The investigation began on November 8, 2022, after hunters came across skeletal remains in a wooded area off Bowlby Road in the Town of Elmira. At the time, authorities were unable to determine the identity of the deceased.
Since then, the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division has worked alongside the FBI and Othram, a company specializing in forensic genealogy, to conduct DNA testing and genealogical tracing. Those efforts have now led to a positive identification.
The circumstances surrounding Seck’s presence in the area and the cause of his death remain under investigation. Authorities are asking anyone who had contact with Seck in 2022, or who may have information relevant to the case, to contact the Criminal Investigation Division at 607-737-2933.
