Taxes, bail reform, and housing – how do New Yorkers feel about state budget proposals?
A recent Siena poll asked residents how they feel on certain issues included in the proposed budget.
Increasing taxes on those earning more than 5-million dollars, giving judges more say over bail, and banning flavored tobacco products all received majority support while raising tuition at SUNY schools, providing health insurance for undocumented immigrants, and requiring municipalities to grow their housing supply were all in the minority opinion.
The poll also gauged who Democrats and Republicans will choose in the 2024 presidential election.
52% of New York Republicans choose Trump for a second term over giving Florida Governor Ron DeSantis a chance. 43% of Democrats said they’d like to see a second term for President Biden while 51% want to see someone else’s name appear on the party line in 2024.
