Senator Charles Schumer is with a bi-partisan delegation of U-S lawmakers that are in Tel Aviv – a week after Hamas attacked southern Israel – and as Israeli Defense Forces prepare for an assault on Hamas in Gaza. The Senators met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and defense officials to discuss U.S. support for Israel.
“Having our two carrier groups, one is already in the eastern Mediterranean, the other is on its way, means a great deal to both Israel, but also to enemies that might try to strike at Israel, showing that the force of the United States is there,” said Schumer.
When asked at a press conference about U.S. Troops, Schumer said there are no plans for that at this point.
“I don’t think anyone is asking for American troops but American aid is much needed in a variety of different ways.”
In a post on X, Schumer wrote “While in Tel Aviv today, our delegation was rushed to a shelter to wait out rockets sent by Hamas. It shows you what Israelis have to go through. We must provide Israel with the support required to defend itself.”
Schumer is the highest-ranking Jewish elected official in the US.
