A Rochester mother is facing multiple charges after police say her 16-year-old son was struck by her car and later died from his injuries.
Rochester Police report the incident occurred on October 10 around 7 a.m. on Breck Street. Officers responding to a report of a possible pedestrian struck found Ca’hry Gibson unconscious and rushed him to the hospital.
Investigators say Gibson and his mother, 38-year-old Aneka Connor, had argued over a cellphone earlier that morning. Police say Connor then left the house in her car, and as she was backing into the street, Gibson ran out and jumped onto the vehicle. Video evidence reportedly shows the car accelerating forward and Gibson falling onto the pavement.
Gibson died on November 7 from injuries sustained in the incident. His organs were later donated.
The case was referred to the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office and presented to a grand jury. On December 23, a sealed indictment was issued for Connor, who was arrested Tuesday.
Connor has been charged with manslaughter, reckless endangerment, and endangering the welfare of a child. She is being held at the Monroe County Jail with bail set at $35,000 cash and is expected to appear in court in January.
