A 53-year-old Rochester man fell to his death while hiking in Colorado Wednesday.
According to the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office, the unidentified man, who was an experienced climber, was hiking alone when he fell approximately 300 feet and suffered a fatal head injury.
Another climber spotted him and initiated the 911 call. When rescuers reached the man, they found that he had succumbed to his injuries. The victim was recovered and transferred to the San Miguel County Coroner.
The four-hour mission was conducted with the assistance of Highland Helicopter out of Durango
