A Rochester man was arrested Thursday morning in Greece after a traffic stop revealed drugs and a fraudulent vehicle registration, according to the New York State Police.
State troopers said they observed a 2010 Infiniti traveling southbound on State Route 390 around 8:53 a.m. Feb. 11 without front or rear license plates. The vehicle displayed what appeared to be a temporary in-transit permit in the rear window.
Investigators determined the registration was fraudulent and that the vehicle had no valid registration. Troopers also discovered that 29-year-old Brian Lopez of Rochester had multiple outstanding warrants out of New Mexico related to a conditional release violation for dangerous drugs.
Lopez was taken into custody without incident. During an inventory of the vehicle, troopers seized approximately 1.9 grams of fentanyl in small bags, 28 grams of suspected Dexmethylphenidate Hydrochloride extended-release pills, and 151.2 grams of cannabis products, including suspected THC concentrate.
He was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fugitive from justice, possession of a controlled substance in a non-original container, and multiple vehicle and traffic violations, including operating an unregistered vehicle and improper plates.
Lopez was processed at SP Rochester, issued traffic and appearance tickets, and transported to the Monroe County Jail for CAP arraignment. New Mexico has authorized his extradition on the outstanding warrants.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
