Retired Trooper Dies from 9/11 Related Illness

A retired State Police Zone Sergeant has died due to an illness stemming from his work at Ground Zero following the September 11 terrorist attack in New York City.

State Police Superintendent Steven James announced the line-of-duty death of Zone Sergeant Steven Greene on Friday due to an illness related to his work in and around the World Trade Center site. He was 65 and is survived by his wife, Nancy, and sons Robert and Daniel.

Calling hours will be held from 3:00-7:00p on Thursday at The Stables at Windy Point, 215 Sissonville Rd, Potsdam, NY 13676. The funeral will be held the following day at the same location, beginning at 11:00a.

Zone Sergeant Greene retired from the New York State Police on July 17, 2002, having served for over 20 years. He was last assigned to Troop B, Zone 2, in Canton.
