Retired Trooper Dies from 9/11 Related Illness

A State Trooper from Rochester has died due to his work following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

According to State Police, Trooper Steven Tyrrell passed away Wednesday from an illness that stemmed from his assignment to New York City following the attacks on the Twin Towers. He was working in and around the World Trade Center site where he aided in search and recovery efforts.

The 58-year-old joined the state police in October 1997, serving for 26 years. Spending most of his career in Troop T, the troop covering the thruway, he was last assigned to Troop T, Henrietta.

Tyrrell is survived by his three children; Sean, Kathryn, and Rachel.
