According to its final environmental report made public late last week, Micron Technology will delay the opening of its first two chipmaking factories in Clay by two to three years.
The first factory, originally scheduled to open in mid-2028, is now expected to begin operations in late 2030. The second factory, initially planned for late 2030, has been pushed back to late 2033. Construction timelines will also be extended, with the first fab’s build period growing from three to four years.
Syracuse.com reports that the environmental report was formally accepted last Friday by the Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency, a key step for Micron to move forward with site preparation and construction.
Micron did not cite specific reasons for the delays, though the report notes changes to requirements tied to the company’s $6.1 billion funding agreement with the U.S. Department of Commerce.
