A little more than one month after being suspended without pay, a police chief for one Livingston County village has resigned. Joseph Geer suspension from the Avon Police Department came about following a presentation of evidence by the FBI. At the time, Avon Mayor Thomas Freeman said the village was unaware of any issues until it was served with a subpoena on February 1st.
13 WHAM reports the State Comptroller’s Office was looking into “scheduling and bookkeeping” issues within the Avon Police Department earlier this year. The Avon School District confirmed the FBI was investigating whether a district service provider submitted false claims for work performed for the district. Geer was listed as a school resource officer but the district did not confirm who was the center of the FBI investigation.
