Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (R-NY) unveiled her America First Foreign Policy Plan today, promising a tougher stance on China, stronger American global leadership, and greater accountability for how U.S. taxpayer dollars are spent overseas.
As a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the mother of a U.S. Marine officer, Tenney cited her personal and professional experience as key drivers of her national security vision. Her plan builds on policies from the Trump administration, with a focus on “peace through strength,” strategic diplomacy, and confronting authoritarian adversaries like the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
“Under President Trump’s leadership, America is once again leading from a position of strength,” Tenney said in a statement. “My America First Foreign Policy Plan reflects our commitment to defending American sovereignty, confronting our enemies, and advancing the interests of the American people—not global elites.”
Among the plan’s top priorities is countering China’s growing influence. Tenney is backing several legislative measures aimed at curbing CCP access to sensitive U.S. infrastructure and technology. These include blocking Chinese land purchases near critical infrastructure, banning Chinese AI tools on government devices, and responding to Chinese and Russian military activities in the Arctic.
Tenney is also targeting what she describes as “corrupt and anti-American” international institutions. Her plan calls for defunding the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), citing its alleged ties to Hamas. She is opposing pandemic treaty efforts at the World Health Organization (WHO) that bypass Senate approval and is pushing for sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC) for what she sees as politically motivated investigations into U.S. allies.
In addition to global threats, Tenney is emphasizing U.S. engagement in the Western Balkans. As co-chair of the Serbia and Macedonia Caucuses, she has been a vocal advocate for addressing human rights abuses against ethnic Serbs in Kosovo and countering Russian and Chinese influence in the region.
Tenney’s plan comes at a time when Republican lawmakers are increasingly critical of the Biden administration’s foreign policy, accusing it of weakness abroad and wasteful spending. With the 2024 election behind them and President Donald Trump back in the White House, Tenney says the time is right to restore a foreign policy rooted in American strength and sovereignty.
