Congressman Nick Langworthy, a Republican, has temporarily closed his Jamestown district office following what he describes as repeated and credible threats directed at him and members of his staff.
In a statement released Monday, Langworthy said the decision was made out of concern for the safety of employees and the public after multiple threats and calls for violence were received.
The office is working with the U.S. Capitol Police and local law enforcement agencies to investigate the threats and to determine appropriate security measures.
While the Jamestown office is closed to the public, Langworthy’s staff will continue to provide constituent services remotely. Residents can still receive assistance by phone and email, and all services normally offered through the district office remain available.
Langworthy represents New York’s 23rd Congressional District, which includes all of Western New York, as well as portions of Schuyler and Steuben counties.
No timetable has been announced for when the Jamestown office will reopen. Officials say updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Authorities have not released details about the nature of the threats or whether any arrests have been made.
