A federal appeals court has lifted an injunction that prevented state regulators from issuing marijuana licenses for sales in several regions across the state, but upheld that injunction in the Finger Lakes region.
Areas where the mandate was lifted include Western New York, Central New York, Hudson Valley, and Brooklyn.
The injunction was originally brought after a Michigan-based business sued for being denied a license to operate a dispensary in the state. The Michigan business’s number one choice to locate was in the Finger Lakes region.
Governor Kathy Hochul says she is pleased that the court limited the injunction in favor of the state, adding she is committed to ensuring New York continues to lead the nation in the safe and equitable approach to the marijuana market.
