No one was injured after a man brandishing a knife blockaded himself in his Clay home on Monday.
According to State Police, police arrived at a Trevi Lane home after Thomas Kalenak damaged a neighbor’s vehicle with a 4×10″ board. When an officer attempted to contact the 68-year-old, he brandished a knife and made threats to them before barricading himself inside his home.
With the help of a crisis negotiator and the Special Operations Response Team, Kalenak voluntarily exited the home and was taken into custody around 11:00p. He was charged with Menacing a Police Officer, Criminal mischief, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
A search warrant was then executed at the residence and a Temporary Extreme Risk Protection Order was filed under the state’s red flag laws.
Kalenak was processed and taken to the Onondaga County Justice Center to await arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
