Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office Warning of Increased Scams

SHARE NOW

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office is warning of scammers in the area.

The office says people are calling potential victims claiming their loved ones have been arrested and need money to get them out of jail. Law enforcement and courts do not call family members asking for or demanding funds.

As these scams typically target older members of the community, the sheriff’s office requests the elderly take special care when receiving requests to solicit money by mail or electronically.

Sheriff Thomas Newton adds that, if you are asked for/required to pay someone you haven’t got for a service, don’t hesitate to contact local law enforcement.
