A 78-year-old woman was killed and a 78-year-old man critically injured following a house explosion Monday evening in Lake View, according to Hamburg Town Police.
According to our sister publication, Chautauqua Today, Joene Pease was found dead at the scene on West Lane, while John Pease was transported to ECMC in critical condition. The explosion destroyed the Pease residence and caused heat damage to several nearby homes.
A firefighter and a police officer were also hospitalized with minor injuries. Police said 17 fire companies responded to the scene, along with the Chautauqua County Tech Rescue Team.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
