UPDATE: The pilot and sole occupant of the helicopter has been identified as Gary R. Johnson, age 65, from Carthage.
One man is dead following a helicopter crash in Jefferson County on Saturday.
State troopers responded to the area of 64 West Liberty Street in the Village of West Carthage just after 11:00a where they found the operator of the helicopter seriously injured.
The operator, whose name has not yet been released to the public, was taken to Carthage Area Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The FAA and NTSB were at the scene and are continuing the investigation into the crash.
