NYSEG and RG&E Continue Power Restoration Following Sunday Wind Storm

SHARE NOW

New York Electric & Gas (NYSEG) and Rochester Gas & Electric (RG&E) are continuing restoration efforts after a wind storm on Sunday left tens of thousands of customers without power across western and central New York. The storm affected service areas from Buffalo to Brewster, including Canandaigua, Auburn, Binghamton, Ithaca, Elmira, Geneva, and Oneonta.

As of Monday, crews have restored service to approximately 97 percent of customers impacted by the storm. About 1,000 NYSEG customers and 1,100 RG&E customers remain without power. The companies have deployed 217 additional field crews to the most affected areas to expedite repairs.

Restoration efforts have included clearing downed tree limbs and wires, repairing damaged poles, and restoring transmission lines. Advanced metering technology is being used to identify and prioritize areas most in need of service.

Officials caution residents to stay away from downed wires and storm debris, and to avoid approaching crews while work is in progress. Customers are urged to report outages or lingering power issues by contacting NYSEG at 800-572-1131 or RG&E at 1-800-743-1701.

Once service is fully restored, the companies will conduct a full system sweep to identify remaining damage that could affect reliability in the future.

NYSEG and RG&E continue to monitor forecasts for additional wind and rain and will respond to any new outages as needed. Updates will be shared on the companies’ social media channels throughout the week.
