NYS Tax Dept.: Don’t Delay Filing Your Tax Return

SHARE NOW

New York State is reminding you to file your tax return on time, even if you can’t pay all of what you owe at once.

The Department of Taxation and Finance adds that there are options available for those who can’t pay what they by the due date. Taxpayers are advised to submit their tax returns in order to avoid penalties. They can then pay what they can afford by the deadline to reduce interest and request an Installment Payment Agreement (IPA).

“Some New Yorkers mistakenly think it’s better to simply not file their tax return if they can’t afford to pay what they owe,” said New York State Department of Taxation and Finance Acting Commissioner Amanda Hiller. “To avoid making their financial situation worse, they should file on time and consider payment options available through the Tax Department.”

Through an IPA, taxpayers can make monthly payments to pay off their tax debt. The department adds the easiest way to request an IPA is through an Online Services account with them.

More information can be found on the tax department’s website.

The deadline to submit a tax return is Monday.
