Republicans in the New York State Senate want the governor to drop the gas ban from the state’s proposed budget.
Citing a decision from the 9th Circuit of the US Court of Appeals which held that a state can’t ban natural gas hookups, Pam Helming and Tom O’Mara are two of the senators who have added their signatures to a letter urging the governor to remove the ban on fossil fuel equipment in residential and commercial buildings from the budget.
Under Governor Hochul’s plan, natural gas, propane, and fuel oil hookup installations would be prohibited by 2035.
