New York State is taking new actions to combat the spread of xylazine in the state.
You’ll now be able to order free testing strips from the state in order to test for the drug’s presence.
Xylazine is a non-opioid sedative that poses harmful health impacts, especially when added to fentanyl. It is normally used by veterinarians and has not been approved for human use.
“Xylazine is a dangerous drug that can cause serious health complications, including overdose deaths, and New York State continues to take aggressive measures to address this growing threat,” Governor Kathy Hochul said. “These new efforts will save lives and bring much needed resources to communities that continue to experience the ongoing impact of this crisis.”
Strips are available through the Office of Addiction Services and Supports and Office of Mental Health programs.
