The New York State Office of General Services announced that the state’s annual celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will take place Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, at the Empire State Plaza in Albany.

Doors for the evening event open at 5:30 p.m. with a welcome reception at the base of the Egg Performing Arts Center. The official program begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center. Earlier in the day, the Be a King Volunteer Fair will run from 10 a.m. on the Empire State Plaza Concourse. The public is invited to attend both events. Reservations for the evening program are optional.

The celebration honors Dr. King’s commitment to justice, equity, and peace, according to OGS Commissioner Jeanette Moy.

“We are proud to feature artists, activists, and educators who exemplify Dr. King’s principles,” Moy said.

This year’s program features gospel singer and two-time Grammy nominee Melvin Crispell III, with additional performances by violinist Gwen Laster and interdisciplinary artist Taína Asili. Special guest speakers include SUNY Chancellor Dr. John B. King Jr.

The Be a King Volunteer Fair will feature representatives from civic and community organizations sharing opportunities for public engagement and volunteer work.

Attendees are encouraged to bring donations for the MLK Food Drive or Book Drive. Complimentary light refreshments will be provided while supplies last. Free parking will be available in the Visitor’s Lot after 4 p.m.
