NY Launches Grant Program for Multi-Factor Authentication Tokens

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the release of the combined FY2022 and FY2023 State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP) Request for Applications (RFA), giving eligible New York State entities the opportunity to apply for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) tokens. The program aims to reduce cyber risks and strengthen cybersecurity across local governments statewide.

“From our bank accounts and social media to critical infrastructure, every part of daily life relies on strong cybersecurity systems,” Governor Hochul said. “I’m investing in modern cyber infrastructure and tools to keep New York ahead of emerging threats and ensure every New Yorker can trust the systems they depend on.”

The grant program utilizes more than $13.9 million in federal funding from the SLCGP, which was established under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021. The funds are designed to help state, local, tribal, and territorial governments address cybersecurity risks and protect information systems.

To maximize participation, New York will directly procure the MFA tokens and deliver them to eligible entities approved for shared services. The State’s Office of Information Technology Services will manage distribution, as well as training and support to help recipients implement the tokens effectively.

Eligible entities are encouraged to submit applications under the new RFA to take advantage of the federal funding and improve their cybersecurity defenses.
