The average price for a gallon of gas in New York has dropped four pennies in the last week.
AAA of Western and Central New York reports this week’s average of $3.85 cents is 22 cents higher than last year at this time. Those that use diesel are paying 36 cents less than one year ago. The statewide average for diesel is $4.73 down two cents from last week.
National pump prices dropped significantly amid lower demand and a decrease in oil prices. On Monday, oil was $85 to $86 per barrel.
According to the latest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand dropped sharply while total domestic gasoline stocks increased substantially. Growing supply, amid low demand, has pushed pump prices down. If oil prices continue to decline, drivers can expect further price drops at the pump in the weeks ahead.
