SHARE NOW

The New York State Bicycling Coalition (NYBC) will hold its 2024 NY Bike Summit on October 17 & 18 at the Albany Capital Center. This event is designed to bring together everyday bike riders, cycling advocates, and state and local leaders to discuss and promote bicycling initiatives across New York.

“This Summit is a chance for the entire community to come together, share ideas, and shape a brighter future for cycling in New York State — a future filled with the economic, environmental, community building, and health benefits that cycling brings,” said Anne Savage, Executive Director of the New York Bicycling Coalition. “We look forward to welcoming everyone to Albany for what promises to be an inspiring and productive event.”

Highlighted speakers include

  • Wes Marshall, author of Killed by a Traffic Engineer: Shattering the Delusion that Science Underlies our Transportation System;

  • NYS Assemblymember Patricia Fahy on leveraging cycling to drive NY’s economic future;

  • Amelia Neptune from the League of American Bicyclists brings news from across Bicycle Friendly America.

The Summit will include group rides Friday afternoon offered by the Albany Bicycle Coalition in memory of Lou Rossi who was instrumental in the development of New York’s bike route system, and an important founding member of NYBC.

Here are a few sessions of particular interest:

  • Anyone who rides a bike will enjoy the opportunity to have a direct influence on the future of New York’s transportation system. Members of the team spearheading the NYS Active Transportation Strategic Plan initiative will be at the NY Bike Summit to hear directly from you!

  • Will enjoy hearing from Maddy Novich, the CargoBikeMomma, who will offer her expert tips on how to leverage social media for local organizations and advocacy.

  • Attorneys will want to join NYBC Board Member and Bike Lawyer Dan Flanzig who will offer a one-credit CLE:  “Fundamentals of NYS Bike Law in the age of Micro-mobility” This session is open to all, and is approved for one New York State CLE credit.

  • Municipal leaders will want to attend the Strive for 25 sessions to gain practical knowledge about how cities, villages, and certain towns can utilize the 2022 law that gives them the authority to lower speed limits to 25 mph – enhancing safety without requiring substantial financial investment and offering a cost-effective way to make communities safer for cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists alike.
