A new Free Fishing Day is coming to New York State.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced that on Saturday, August 31, fishing license requirements will be waived for freshwater fishing in state water. All other DEC regulations will apply.
“There is no better way to send off summer than adding fishing to your Labor Day weekend plans,” Governor Hochul said. “Reel in the beauty of New York’s extraordinary natural waterbodies and take advantage of this affordable opportunity to enjoy the holiday weekend with family and friends.”
Kicking off Labor Day weekend, this additional free fishing day comes as part of the state’s Get Offline, Get Outside initiative aimed at encouraging kids and families to spend time outdoors.
