The cost of a traditional Thanksgiving meal is down for the third straight year, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation. The group’s annual survey estimates a dinner for 10 at $55.18 nationwide, a 5% drop from 2024.
But New Yorkers won’t see the same savings. The average cost in the state is $66.06, nearly 20% above the national figure and higher than the Northeast average of $60.82.
Lower turkey prices are the biggest factor behind the national decline. A 16-pound frozen turkey averages $21.50 across the U.S., but $28.27 in New York. Other staples like stuffing and rolls also fell in price, while items such as vegetables and sweet potatoes increased due to weather and supply-chain issues.
Farm Bureau officials say New York’s higher food prices reflect rising labor and production costs as well as the state’s higher cost of living. The expanded meal option, including ham and potatoes, averages $87.86 in New York.
The survey has tracked Thanksgiving costs since 1986.
