    Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 12 and 18 inches, with localized amounts up to 22 inches. Northwest winds gusting as high as 35 mph Monday afternoon will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow.

    Portions of central New York and northeast Pennsylvania.

    Until 7 PM EST Monday.
    IMPACTS
    Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.
    ADDITIONAL DETAILS
    Snowfall will likely be very heavy at times this afternoon into the evening with hourly rates potentially exceeding 2 inches per hour. The snow tapers down this evening. Temperatures will be very cold throughout this storm, hovering in the upper single digits to teens the entire time, with colder wind chills.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Persons are urged to stay indoors until conditions improve. If you must go outside, dress in layers. Several layers of clothes will keep you warmer than a single heavy coat. Cover exposed skin to reduce your risk of frostbite or hypothermia. Gloves, a scarf, and a hat will keep you from losing your body heat. Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.

New Yorkers Arrested at “Demand Climate Justice” Sit-In

As the State Legislature negotiates with Governor Kathy Hochul over her proposed Climate Change Superfund Act amendments, New Yorkers embark on day 2 of a three-day Sit-in, Teach-In, Sing-in, and Youth Die-in at the State Capitol. Attendees demand Hochul sign a strong bill based on climate justice and fiscal fairness to make polluters pay for climate crisis costs. The bill would require large fossil fuel companies to pay $75 billion over 25 years for climate damage repair, resilience, and protection programs.

According to organizers, the movement to hold Big Oil accountable, with similar legislation being considered in Massachusetts, California, and Maryland, and a law recently passed in Vermont. Last week, Hochul’s office circulated proposed chapter amendments, opening negotiations with legislative leaders. Over 400 organizations are calling on Governor Hochul to withdraw any amendments that weaken this landmark legislation.

At around 7 Tuesday night, State Capitol Police made arrests of around a dozen elder activists attending the action. At the same time, they continued the sit-in charging them with “criminal trespass,” a misdemeanor (more severe) charge.
