SHARE NOW

The average price for a gallon of gasoline across New York on Monday is $3.18, up two cents from last Monday. One year ago, the New York average was $3.26.

The national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.12, which is down a penny from last week.

The prices are according to numbers released by AAA, which reports that with easing oil costs and lackluster domestic gasoline demand, the national average for pump prices has dropped by one cent while prices locally have fluctuated in either direction. Inclement winter weather is the likely culprit, as it can be harder to distribute gasoline in bad weather and refineries may face operational challenges due to frigid temperatures.

According to the latest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand fell last week while total domestic rose, meanwhile gasoline production dropped minimally last week, averaging 9.2 million barrels daily. This morning, oil prices range from $74 to $82 per barrel. For drivers who use diesel fuel, the national average price for diesel is $3.67, up four cents from last Monday. The New York average is $3.95, up three cents from last Monday.
