Gas prices across New York State are creeping upward as millions prepare to hit the road for Thanksgiving, according to the latest report from AAA Western and Central New York.
The statewide average price for regular gas is $3.15 per gallon, up two cents from last Monday. That’s nearly identical to this time last year, when the average was $3.16.
Several regions across upstate New York also saw slight increases over the past week:
- Batavia: $3.14 (up 2 cents)
- Buffalo: $3.18 (up 1 cent)
- Elmira: $3.03 (up 3 cents)
- Ithaca: $3.22 (up 1 cent)
- Rochester: $3.19 (up 2 cents)
- Rome: $3.21 (up 5 cents)
- Syracuse: $3.09 (up 2 cents)
- Watertown: $3.17 (up 3 cents)
Despite the slight uptick, prices remain steady overall. Nationally, the average sits at $3.07, the same as last week.
AAA says demand for gas typically dips this time of year, helping hold prices in check even as a record 73.3 million Americans plan to travel by car for the holiday. That number could grow if air travelers encounter disruptions.
AAA recommends fueling up the night before traveling and checking vehicle batteries and tire pressure. Last Thanksgiving, the agency responded to nearly 600,000 roadside calls nationwide.
Oil is currently trading between $57 and $64 per barrel. Diesel prices, however, continue to climb—averaging $3.94 in New York, up four cents from last week.
