New York Gas Prices Hold Steady as National Average Ticks Up

SHARE NOW

Drivers across New York are seeing steady prices at the pump, with the state average holding at $3.17 per gallon—unchanged from last Monday, according to AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY). That’s 42 cents less than what New Yorkers were paying a year ago, when the average sat at $3.59.

While the national average inched up one cent over the past week to $3.15, New York’s prices remain slightly above that mark but are not showing the same upward trend—at least for now.

According to AAA WCNY, the summer driving season has one month to go, and so far, so good for drivers filling up their tanks. This past week, the national average for a gallon of regular remained steady at $3.15. July comes to an end with a monthly average of $3.15, the same as it was in July 2021, the last time summer gas prices were this low. Crude oil prices have gone up slightly, as gas demand has also risen, but not enough to drive up prices at the pump.

The Energy Information Administration reports gasoline demand increased from 8.96 million b/d last week to 9.15. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 231.1 million barrels to 228.4. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 10 million barrels per day.

Diesel costs have fluctuated recently. Diesel prices this morning are up a cent to $3.74 compared to last week. The New York average is $3.92, no change from last week
