WE SALUTE YOU: Monday is Law Enforcement Day and The Fair extends its sincere gratitude to all active, retired, and passed police, peace, and corrections officials for their unwavering commitment to keeping communities across New York safe. As a token of appreciation, all active and retired law enforcement personnel will receive free admission to The Fair with identification. It’s a long-standing tradition to honor our fallen Law Enforcement heroes at the annual Law Enforcement Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial (located in front of the Horticulture Building). The ceremony begins at 12 p.m. Law Enforcement individuals will also be recognized during the second parade of the 2024 Fair, which steps off from the Exposition Center at 6 p.m. If you need a refresher on the parade route, brush up on our Showcase of Stars Entertainment Map.
NEW YORK’S FINEST: What better day to stop by the New York State Police Exhibit than Law Enforcement Day where you can watch daily demonstrations by Troopers and their canine partners? See how they traverse underwater rescues and recovery missions, rappel down buildings in high-intensity situations, and dispose of explosive devices. Check out how State Police vehicles have evolved over the years, and witness what it’s like to be in a rollover. Plus, solve a CSI-style mystery in the indoor exhibit. All of the action is located between the Horticulture Building and The Midway.
CNY ENCORE: Monday’s musical lineup features three outstanding performances in Chevy Court and Suburban Park, including up-and-coming country star Megan Moroney who recently put on a memorable performance at the Empower FCU Lakeview Amphitheatre earlier this summer. Moroney, who was named the Academy of Country Music’s New Female Artist of the Year in May, is all over the radio waves and her hit single “Indifferent” is being hailed by some as this summer’s anthem. Moroney isn’t the only hitmaker lined up for Monday with Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone performing at 1 p.m. in Chevy Court followed by CAIN at 6 p.m.
PAN AFRICAN VILLAGE: Whether you’re looking for handmade products, delicious food, or vibrant entertainment, Pan African Village has your ticket to fun. Hit up Henry’s Hen House for southern fried chicken and freshly made southern-style sweet tea or try some authentic Haitian style chicken wings, red snapper, and black rice at Petu Haitian Soule Food. And for those who love an empanada, stop by Sarita’s Empanadas for a chance to get one free with a purchase of their merchandise. And for anyone looking for vegan options, check out Omanii’s Lemonade Heaven – their menu has everything from beef chili (and vegan) hot dogs to sweet potato cheesecake. On the way out, make sure to stop by Legacy Clothing 315, a company providing black cultural and spiritual clothing, or at B and T African Art for homemade shea butter or perfume oils. And if you’re feeling charitable, consider purchasing a rum cake from Goodway Bakery, which funds the education of students at Redemption Christian Academy. While you’re there, learn more about how to stay involved in your community through the Syracuse NAACP and Fired Up for Youth Inc.
“NOT THE MAMMA!”: Kudos to anyone who gets the reference. If you haven’t had a chance to visit the Expo Center through the first five days of The Fair, you should carve out some time to walk through Dinosaur Expedition. The must-see, family-friendly exhibit features new dinosaurs that range in size from hatchlings measuring three feet tall to full-grown massive creatures that loom as large as 35 feet and span up to 80 feet. Visitors will be able to walk through the indoor experience at their own pace, taking in the wonders of 65 million years ago, including the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Velociraptor, Brachiosaurus, and Stegosaurus. Additionally, Dinosaur Expedition hosts story time every hour on the hour. The exhibit also features numerous hands-on activities like fossil digs where participants of all ages can learn more about the creatures that roamed the earth 65 million years ago.
YOU’VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE: The fifth day of The Fair is officially in the books and 78,341 visitors were treated to blue skies, three amazing concerts, outstanding agricultural competitions, and more!
