Missouri Man Drowns in Lake Ontario; Two Others Injured

New York State Police are investigating a drowning that occurred Thursday evening along the Lake Ontario shoreline in the Jefferson County town of Ellisburg.

Troopers were dispatched around 6:58 p.m. to the area of 7883 Little Field Place for a report of a person missing in the water. Before emergency crews arrived, the victim was pulled from the lake, and CPR was in progress.

Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, the victim, identified as 51-year-old Gregory Stewart of Fordland, Missouri, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two people who helped pull Stewart from the water were also injured. One was transported to Samaritan Medical Center, while the other was treated at the scene and declined further care.

The investigation is ongoing.
