Following years of advocacy, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on Tuesday announced Micron and the Department of Commerce have finalized its CHIPS agreement for up to $6.1 billion in direct funding through the bipartisan CHIPS & Science Law to support plans for its massive megafab complex near Syracuse and expansion in Idaho.
According to Schumer, the finalized agreement ensures Micron can tap into CHIPS funding in coming years as it meets project milestones for Micron’s plans in Idaho and in Clay to invest over $100 billion in NY over the next 20 years creating Up to 50,000 good paying jobs.
With President-Elect Donald Trump starting his next term in January, Senator Schumer said there had been some pressure to complete the agreement before the end of the year.
