New York could require those who dump PFAs into the state’s waterways to disclose their discharge measurements.
A bill by State Senator Rachel May has advanced through the Environmental Conservation Committee which would require publicly owned treatment facilities and people who discharge industrial waste into state waterways to disclose the levels of PFAs in their discharge.
PFAs or Polyfluoroalkyl Substances, are used in making plastics. Found in food, clothing, and other products, they can accumulate in the human body and are believed to cause damage to the reproductive and immune systems.
