Five correction officers charged in the deadly beating of an inmate, Robert Brooks, at Marcy Correctional Facility have been given two more weeks to decide whether to accept plea deals or proceed to trial.
The judge had expected each defendant to make a decision at their latest court appearance, but their attorneys requested more time. Some defense teams pointed to problems accessing digital evidence from the prosecution, including blank pages and issues with video playback. Others said the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office, serving as special prosecutor, had recently shared new evidence that could impact their clients’ decisions.
The case will return to court in two weeks for further proceedings.
