A Buffalo man is dead following a fatal hunting accident.
State Police responded to Plato Road in the Cattaraugus County town of East Otto to check the welfare of a hunter. An investigation determined that 54-year-old Mark Scanlon went hunting off Plato Road and did not return to his vehicle. Troopers located Scanlon’s body in a wooded area, the apparent victim of a fatal fall from a portable tree stand.
No signs of foul play and the body was taken to Olean General Hospital for an autopsy.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted in this investigation.
